On Repeat

So, if you follow me on Twitter or FaceBook, you might have noticed how my updates tend to veer towards the songs that get stuck in my head. Well, here's the one that's stuck TODAY:

This is what I get for having my finger on the pulse of what's hot in the U.S. AND the U.K. Ha!

Anyway, CONGRATS Girls Aloud for having the Best British Single at the 2009 Brit Awards last night!

(By the way, the often-proven antidote in our house for getting a song UN-stuck has always been to sing a Barry Manilow song. Be warned though, we have yet to find a remedy for curing the cursed Now-I've-Got-Copa-Cabana-On-Repeat-In-My-Head disease.)

Etta's Got a Vendetta! (Updated)

Dernit! Ever since I read Rachel' post the other day I keep seeing this video playing over and over in my mind.

Wait. Not that video. That just makes me see Robin Williams and Nathan Lane in The Birdcage doing an eclectic celebration of dance (!), specifically this scene. So many quotables!

It's this one. Hmmmm. No, that's the disturbing one. I mean THIS one.

Anyway, this morning I hear this! And it kinda made me laugh a short snort-less laugh. I didn't know Etta wasn't a fan of Obama! Hm.

Don't worry, I'm not going to get all political. I'll leave that to those who know what they're talking about or can rant better than me.

P.S. It's almost the weekend. Hang in there!

Spelling Confusion

When does a rule become forfeit? I mean, how MANY exceptions must there be before someone says, "Uh, that rule is null and void!" and I'm not talking about economic stimuli plans or collateral benefit plans. Just a simple rule, we heard in elementary school.

The "i before e except after c" rule...I'm not buying it anymore.

Case in point? Forfeit. I used it just a second ago. No c's and YET the E is BEFORE the I! Weird. Wait! There's another! No c, and E before I! Arrrrrrrrrggggggggghhhhhhhhh! And thanks to friends at Wiki, I can use their examples as well. ANOTHER ONE! T-h-E-I-r! Along with species, science, sufficient, ancient, fancied, policies ...those have c's but don't follow that rule either!! Either?!?!?! Another E BEFORE I word. What about seize, sovereignty, vein, feisty, kaleidoscope, sheikh and neighbor? And beige, cleidoic, deign, dreidel, eight, feign, feint, freight, forfeit, geisha, gleization, gneiss, greige, greisen, heigh-ho, heinous, inveigle, neigh, neighbor, obeisance, peignoir, reign, rein, seiche, seidel, seine, sleigh, surveillance, veil, vein, and weigh? Those are E BEFORE I words!! And concierge??? That throws the rule out the window, too! That i is definitely before an e EVEN THOUGH it's after a c. But my favorite has to be:
The word oneiromancies (studies into the meaning of dreams) breaks the rule twice, in both ways.
Oh sure, Wiki, tell me all about the various augmentations that have been created to try to include the exceptions. Look, if it's got to have that many augmentations, I say that rule is no good!

No wonder so many people could care less about grammar, punctuation and spelling...it's just too difficult to keep up!

***Editor's note: I dedicate this post to Marisa, Britta and Stephanie, because they know I can be quite a grammar Nazi and love me anyway! :0) ***

Important Stuff...Not-So-Much "Important" As It Is "Stuff"

If you haven't figured it out, I finished a draft that I had started in December and published it today. So there just might be a post you "missed"!

Speaking of my birthday, the hubster asked me last night on what DAY I was born. (Not that formally, I just had to type it that way.) I had no idea and so, of course, it kept me up all night. I found a website that figured it out for me less I lose another night's sleep. Monday, in case you were beginning to obsess about it, too. I was born on a Monday.

So, then I started looking at those sites that tell you which famous people with whom you share your birthday, what famous events took place on that date, etc. Apparently, this photo is pretty popular and it happened on my birthday. According to The National Security Archive at George Washington University:
Of all the requests made each year to the National Archives for reproductions of photographs and documents, one item has been requested more than any other. That item, more requested than the Bill of Rights or even the Constitution of the United States, is the photograph of Elvis Presley and Richard M. Nixon shaking hands on the occasion of Presley's visit to the White House.

Neat, huh? Thank you...thankyouverymuch.

Tweet, Tweet: Am I Really A Social-Networking Butterfly?

Ok...so...because one of my favorite rednecks signed up for Twitter a while back, I followed route last August to try something new and different. At first, I didn't get it, thought it pretty lame. I'm still not that active, I'm more a Tweet-voyeur. I really just enjoy following celebs that are pretty Twitterific. Who knows? Maybe one day I'll be a Tweet-master like @stephenfry but for now, I'm happy to just follow along.

Today I saw something that I thought pretty ballsy or pretty scary, depending on how you look at it. I look at it both ways, of course. This guy is planning "to travel as far around the world as possible in 30 days, relying only on the goodwill of people using Twitter," and he's doing it for charity. Good luck with that. I for one though, am intrigued to see JUST how far he'll make it.

I truly don't know how I ended up with 25 followers. I mean, they must be really bored because as I said before...I don't do much. I don't even RT (re-tweet) every 2-3 minutes like @bobgarrett, the self-proclaimed "social networking expert." It's really difficult for me to tweet because I don't lead an exciting life, but if you want to know what I'm eating for breakfast or when I'm doing my next load of laundry, be sure to follow my tweets. I may just start making up stuff. Travel on a virtual vacation. Incite a virtual riot. Host a virtual event like Twestival. We'll see. More than likely, I won't since I like to stalk and not be stalked.

Does this really matter? Who reads this anyway? Seriously. Okay, fine. I'm probably the only Poli-pino you'll ever meet and I: like to cook up a good meal (but if given the choice I'd rather eat out); watch TV and films from here and there; love to laugh and try to do it often; hate to cry but end up doing so...and often; believe we ALL make a difference to SOMEONE at SOME POINT; love long walks on the beach, it's cheesy, I know, but I do love them especially with my family; wish I was as erudite as Stephen Fry, as cleverly comedic as (too many to name here) and as oblivious as Mr. Bean. Obviously I could go on...that's why I started the blog!
