Today's Epiphany

Editor's note:  Post copied from my FB.  I thought about adapting it for this forum, but this tangent has taken me away from other pressing matters so I'm kinda strapped for time at the moment.  So, maybe I'll update it later.  During one of my bouts of insomnia.  Or caffeine overload.

Y'all.  I just had an epiphany.  While eating a hamncheesecroissant.  It happens.

Okay.  So.

Did you know I have a blog called that?  Yeah.  I forget about it, too.  (In fact, I just looked.  It's been FIVE months since I posted last.)
Anywhoooo...I've got just the thing to breathe new life into my lost love of blogging.  But I need your help.  Your support.  You.  I need YOU.

I've got an idea.  The brilliance of which will be determined at a later date...but in my mind, it's pretty top-notch.

I've always joked that I wanted my own talk show.  I love getting to know people.  Asking questions to hear how they'll react, what their responses will be, listening to the tangents they'll take.  The anecdotes of people's lives.  I'm not trying to be Oprah.  I'm just fascinated by what makes people tick.

This is where you come in...enter stage left.  I want to interview you.  You read that right.  I can prove it.  Go back and read it again.
I.  Want.  To.  Interview.  You.

"Me?!" you ask, incredulously.
"Yep.  You."  I say confidently.

"But, but...I'm just a (insert your bland definition of yourself here)."  I can hear you now:  stay-at-home-mom, programmer, musician, nurse, dad/coach/go-to-guy, teacher, photographer, college student, rockstar.
"To me...you're a rockstar.  Let me tell people who you are and how I *SEE* you."

Now.  Wardrobe and make-up are solely up to you and your discretion and budget.  It's going to be a written interview, like you see in magazines, duh.  Of course, you are more than welcome to send in a photo, 8x10 glossy, video, etc. to bedazzle my reading audience.  Keep it classy...or at least PG.

So, if I've tagged you in this note:  expect a phone call or an email.  A lunch date if you're lucky.  This is going to happen and you are going to be one of my guests.  And feel free to suggest someone from my friends list who you'd like for me to interview.  If I haven't tagged you, that doesn't mean I'm not thinking of you...it just means I'm not going alphabetically.

I'm pretty excited about this.  Don't kill my buzz...play along.  Please?  With a cherry on top?

So, comment away.  Let me know your thoughts on this little project of mine.  Gimme your interviewee suggestions.  I'm REALLY curious about your reactions.
Disclaimer:  When (there are no "ifs" allowed) you agree to my interview, you'll be given "first look" privileges.  Revisions will be made only after sufficient bribery.

Spring!

I've always said Autumn is my favorite time of year, but this week I have found a new appreciation for Spring.
I am LOVING it!

Spotting the first blush of wildflowers along the highway.
Watching the crepe myrtles coming into bloom in my neighborhood.
Seeing the bright green of new buds and leaves on the bushes and trees.
The crisp, cool mornings evolving into afternoons of sunshine warming my skin.

Spring, please stick around a while...I want to get to know you better before Summer takes over.

And THIS.

Y'all.

THIS song made my heart swell the first time I heard it. (This is the actual performance I saw before I sought out more.) And my love for it has grown over the last several weeks, blooming into a "Green Garden." If you haven't acquainted yourself with Laura Mvula yet, do yourself a favor and listen to this. I hope you love it like I do. If not, we'll still be friends. I just may look at you a little differently.

For those of you in town for SXSW, I would highly recommend checking her out.  I will be jealous of you, sure.  But ultimately, I'll be picking your brain to see what you thought.  I'm certain you'll be thanking me for the introduction.  I am that confident.

Enjoy the spring sunshine, too.  Pretty soon we'll be baking in the heat of Summer...and I'm not quite ready for that.

Happy Valentine's Day

I know I'm pretty silly at times.  It's fun to be silly.  I wish more people would allow themselves to lose their stoic, reserved, "mature" selves and just let loose and have a giggle.  But today, I want to be serious for just a moment.  A moment.

So, Valentine's Day.  Yeah.  I kinda think people have missed, or lost, the point.  Sure, I think the deeper meaning is a celebration of love.  I'm not that much of a cynic.  I just think that people have succumbed to the marketing ploy that you have to buy flowers, chocolates, four-and-a-half-foot tall teddy bears, or whatever the trend of the day is to tell the person you love how IN love you are.

For me, just tell me.  With true sincerity.  With your heart.  Say, "I love you" and mean it.

I count myself lucky and blessed because K tells me daily and often.  And sometimes when he thinks I've heard it too often or I'm not really listening, he stops me from whatever is distracting me no matter how trivial ("I need to switch out the loads of laundry", "I need to run to the store", etc.) or deeply troubling (which in the end tend to be pretty trivial) and holds my gaze until I acknowledge "I love you."

I'm not good at telling the people I love how much I love them.  But when I say it, I DO mean it.  Even when I'm not saying it, I'm trying my hardest to show it.  Even in the smallest of gestures.

And when I get really sentimental, I listen to songs like this.  I want to make you feel my love.  If I could sing as well as Adele, I would.  I mean every word.

When the rain is blowing in your face
And the whole world is on your case
I could offer you a warm embrace
To make you feel my love

When the evening shadows and the stars appear
And there is no one there to dry your tears
I could hold you for a million years
To make you feel my love

I know you haven't made your mind up yet
But I would never do you wrong
I've known it from the moment that we met
No doubt in my mind where you belong

I'd go hungry, I'd go black and blue and
I'd go crawling down the avenue
You know there's nothing that I wouldn't do
To make you feel my love

The storms are raging on the rolling sea
And on the highway of regret
The winds of change are blowing wild and free
You ain't seen nothing like me yet

I could make you happy, make your dreams come true
Nothing that I wouldn't do
Go to the ends of the Earth for you
To make you feel my love, To make you feel my love

Today, tell someone you love them.
And mean it.

Does this really matter? Who reads this anyway? Seriously. Okay, fine. I'm probably the only Poli-pino you'll ever meet and I: like to cook up a good meal (but if given the choice I'd rather eat out); watch TV and films from here and there; love to laugh and try to do it often; hate to cry but end up doing so...and often; believe we ALL make a difference to SOMEONE at SOME POINT; love long walks on the beach, it's cheesy, I know, but I do love them especially with my family; wish I was as erudite as Stephen Fry, as cleverly comedic as (too many to name here) and as oblivious as Mr. Bean. Obviously I could go on...that's why I started the blog!
