Be warned, I've FINALLY gotten into the Christmas spirit.
A friend of mine shared her top 5 Christmas albums on her wall and I loved the idea so much I'm stealing it...but I'm only sharing my top 5 songs. I want YOU to do the same, albums or songs, I'm not picky!! I just want to hear from ya!
(And I apologize in advance for the sentimentality...it couldn't be avoided.)
1) Blue Christmas - Elvis Presley: This ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS reminds me of my dad because he used to have this in heavy rotation while we decorated/baked/cooked in preparation and when we celebrated on the day. It will forever remind me of him and all those moments that seem meaningless at the time but when swirled with nostalgia create memories that turn out to be some of the best times of your life.
2) Silent Night - The Temptations: My mom used to love all the Christmas songs that were sung in church and this was probably one of her favorites. I don't know for sure but she would always sing along when it came on the radio, when my dad played it and definitely during midnight Mass. Without even realizing it, this song reminds me of her.
3) The Christmas Song - Nat King Cole: What can I say? I'm a sucker for the classics. But THIS song more than any other IS Christmas to me. And as much as I love the covers done by everyone else over the years, there's just something about Nat King Cole's voice, phrasing, and sincerity that I LOVE. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. I could listen to it on a loop.
4) What Are You Doing New Year's Eve? - Harry Connick, Jr.: Okay, I'm gonna swoon a little here. (sigh) This whole album (When My Heart Finds Christmas) is probably one of my favorite Christmas ALBUMS. If Harry sang this to me, I would do just about anything he asked me...except maybe watch Honey Boo-Boo. I could go on, but it would serve no other purpose but to embarrass myself and/or make you uncomfortable listening to my ramblings...
5) Mele Kalikimaka - Bing Crosby: Who doesn't love hearing Hawaii's way to say "Merry Christmas"?? It's just fun to sing. And it's on my bucket list: to spend Christmas somewhere tropical whether it's in Hawaii or on another beautiful island, I don't really care. I just want to do it at least once in my lifetime.
Honorable Mentions:
I'll Be Home for Christmas - Michael Bublé: I just want to wrap his voice around me like a warm fleece blanket.
Feliz Navidad - José Feliciano: Whenever I hear it, it's stuck in my head for days. THAT is song writing brilliance, people.
Your turn!!
